Description
Brutalist etched zinc and wood coffee table by Bernhard Rohne 1960s
About the item
Like Heinz Lilienthal, Bernhard Rohne is considered as a pivotal German furniture artist as well. Like Lilienthal, Rohne also created a lot of handmade coffee tables with strong patterned ornaments. However, in contrast to Lilienthal, Rohne often used different techniques and materials to create a similar effect since Rohne had a strong disposition for wood, stone, copper and zinc.
In this particular case, Rohne has used a zinc plate that has been etched by hand. Around the zinc plate, Rohne constructed a Wenge wood frame while the top lies on a separate wenge veneered foot. The overall effect is a sober yet very elegant table.
These specific tables were produced in a small serie so exclusivity is guaranteed.
In order to prove its authenticity, the table is signed by Rohne in one of the bottom corners.
About its condition
The table is in a good general condition with some discolouration visible in the center of the zinc plate. The wood is in a good general condition with some small discolouration as well.
