About the item
This table is designed and made by Polish born but German raised artist Heinz Lilienthal in the 1970s. Heinz Lilienthal (1927-2006) was a Polish born artist and one of the most recognized glass painters of the post-war years. In his career he also designed and made coffee and dining tables, mostly consisting of different layers of beautiful marble and other materials such as hard stone.
The table is just another example of the craftsmanship of Lilienthal. The brass top has been hand made by pouring the liquid brass into a preformed casting mould. This created a relief, or 3D structure in the top plate. Due to the brass solidifying differently due to differences in local temperature, a distinct color pattern has been created simultaneously as well. After the brass was fully solidified, the top was connected to a black metal under plate that was produced in order to provide a base for the top to affix the wooden foot to. The wooden foot in itself consists out of a bend rosewood veneer fixed on a black metal base.
All by all, the table is a masterpiece in itself and is both light and strong due to its construction. With its brutalist look, it can be combined in about any form of (mid-century) modern or modernist interior.
About its condition
The entire table is in a very good condition with only minor traces of use visible on the brass top and black metal plate. The black metal underplate has a scratch in the paint visible however this is invisible if the table is standing on the floor. The wooden foot is in a perfect overall condition.
