Congo Armchair

SOLD TO LONDON (UK)

About the item:

Authentic Congo from Artifort, design by Theo Ruth, designed and produced in the 50s.

A very well thought out design that was ahead of its time; frame and upper part can be detached and can be stored very compact.

The Congo chairs are truly the markers of the beginnings of Artifort and was one of the most successful models in their early years of production.

What is unique about this specific example is that it still has its original De Ploeg fabric, in multitone color. The upper part is grey/green, the seating part is striped and the bottom side turquoise/white dotted.

The original marking is still present on the bottom.

The frame is made of beech wood.

About its condition

Considering the original fabric is already 70 years old at this point, it still is in very good condition. No damage nor stains but it’s visible that the fabric is old. Still completely usable tough.

The beech frame is still very nice.
